Research Projects
for Dzialoszyce
Several research projects are underway related to the town of Dzialoszyce and to Javinsky family records. All these projects need support, both with volunteer efforts and financial help.

Translation of the Yizkor book of Dzialoszyce (published by Hamenora, Tel Aviv, 1973):

Yizkor books were written after the Holocaust as memorials to destroyed Jewish communities. They were put together by survivors from those communities and contain descriptions and histories of the town, biographies of prominent people, lists of people who perished, photos, maps, and other memorabilia. The majority of these books are written in Hebrew and/or Yiddish.

The Yizkor Book Project is a volunteer group contained within JewishGen, the premier Jewish genealogy site on the internet (http://www.jewishgen.org). The YBP is dedicated to helping genealogists translate yizkor books and publish the translations on the internet where they are available to all.

Translation work has started on the Yizkor Book of Dzialoszyce. To date, the Table of Contents, the Necrology (list of residents killed in the Holocaust), the photograph captions and a chapter called Dzialoshitz Jews: How I Remember Them have been translated and published on the internet. In addition the one English section of the book, dealing with Dzialoszcye history, has also been published on the internet.

However, most of the Yizkor Book remains to be translated. So far, we have used the services of professional translators. This can cost over $50 per page. We need help with donations to fund translation of additional chapters and would also welcome volunteer services from anyone fluent in Hebrew or Yiddish interested in translating.

To make donations for further translations of the Yizkor Book of Dzialoszyce, please contact Susan Javinsky.
