Jewish Records Indexing - Poland (JRI-Poland) project to translate indexes to Dzialoszyce vital records 1865-1900:
JRI-Poland is a project that creates computer databases of indexes to the 19th century Jewish vital records of Poland. It has created the largest fully searchable database of Jewish vital records on the internet. One of the newest JRI-Poland projects has been created to translate and publish the indexes to the Jewish vital records stored in the Pinczow branch of the Polish State Archives. This archive branch holds records for Dzialoszyce as well as 8 other towns. Records from about 1867 on are written in Russian in the Cyrillic alphabet. Without this project, access to these records is very difficult and expensive since it requires either on-site research in Poland or the hiring of a professional researcher in Poland who can translate from Russian.
It has been determined that there are a total of over 13,000 vital records for Dzialoszyce available. Funds must be raised to translate these indexes into English and then publish them in the internet database. The fund raising goal for Dzialoszyce records is $2137.44. As of Nov 1, 2002, $1315.00 has been raised. Many vital events relevant to the Javinsky and Palesznicki families will be found in these records.
