The Javinsky Family
from Dzialoszyce, Poland to the United States
Joseph, date unknown
The Javinsky family originated in Dzialoszyce, a town in south-central Poland many generations ago. Our family became established in the United States in 1920, when Josef Dziewiecki settled in Minneapolis with his wife Ruchla and their four children. They sailed on the S.S. New Rochelle from Danzig on Oct. 25, 1920 and arrived in New York on Nov. 15, 1920. The passport used by Ruchla and three of the children has survived.

The Dziewiecki surname originates in the town of Dziewieczyce, Poland (located very near Dzialoszyce) and has several spelling variants. The family surname was eventually changed to Javinsky and Josef and Ruchla became Joseph and Rose. The Javinsky family has members in Canada and the United States, and probably Israel as well.

This website contains information on the town of Dzialoszyce and the yizkor book dedicated to the Jewish community there before the Holocaust. It also contains information about Josef and Ruchla Dziewiecki, their children, and their ancestors. Family photos and documents such as passports, passenger ship manifests, and 19th century birth, marriage and death records are also on this site.
